Two things really irritate the children and young people, and their parents and carers, who are trying to get help.
One thing is that children and parents have to see lots of people and have to explain again each time. For example, Joe has a learning difficulty. He and his parents have to see several medical experts, then an educational psychologist, then arrange transport to school, then have meetings with school staff, and so on. Each person they see they have to explain the whole story all over again. This all takes a lot of time.
The second thing is that the helpers often seem to spend a lot of time talking about what the problem might be, and less time actually helping.
We are doing several things to try to improve this situation.
- We are bringing all the people who provide help into one place so that they can plan and develop help that:
|
- is easier to use
- is all in one place
- is what young people want
- can help young people best

- We are making one assessment system. This is so that different helpers don't have to keep asking you the same questions and can spend more time helping.
- We are bringing many different helpers' leaders into a 'Children's Trust Board'. They will then be able to decide together how to best spend their money for the benefit of young people.
- We are listening to young people so that YOU help decide what is planned and developed and to make sure the changes are right.
Over time, these changes should bring real improvements to our services and the way young people are helped, and we look forward to reporting on our progress.
